Description
A simple, homemade pumpkin spice cold brew that tastes like fall in a glass. This recipe uses just five ingredients, costs pennies compared to coffee shops, and allows you to control the sweetness and dairy content.
Ingredients
- 1 cup coarsely ground coffee beans (medium-dark or dark roast)
- 4 cups filtered water
- 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
- ½ cup heavy cream or half-and-half (or oat milk for dairy-free)
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup (optional)
- Ice cubes (preferably made from leftover cold brew)
- Dash of cinnamon for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Combine the coarsely ground coffee and filtered water in a large jar or pitcher using a 1:4 ratio. Stir well to ensure all grounds are submerged.
- Cover the jar and place it in the refrigerator to steep for 12 to 24 hours (18 hours is recommended for a balanced flavor).
- Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve lined with a coffee filter or nut milk bag into a clean bowl or storage bottle. Discard the grounds.
- In a small bowl, whisk a small amount of the strained cold brew concentrate with the pumpkin pie spice and maple syrup until fully dissolved.
- Pour the spiced syrup back into the main batch of cold brew concentrate and stir well.
- To serve, fill a glass with ice, pour the concentrate over the ice (filling about ¾ full), and top with cream or half-and-half. Garnish with a dash of cinnamon if desired.
Notes
Use coarse ground coffee to prevent bitterness and muddy texture. Dissolve spices in a small amount of liquid first to prevent clumping. Store the concentrate in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Do not add cream until serving time to prevent spoilage. For a dairy-free version, use oat milk or coconut cream. For a sugar-free version, skip the maple syrup or use a zero-calorie sweetener.
