Description
A simple, crowd-pleasing autumn cocktail made with dry red wine, fresh apple cider, cranberries, and oranges. This easy-to-make sangria is perfect for holiday parties and requires minimal effort.
Ingredients
Scale
- 750ml dry red wine (Pinot Noir or Merlot)
- 1 quart (950ml) fresh unfiltered apple cider
- 1 cup (150g) fresh cranberries
- 2 medium oranges, sliced into thin rounds
- 2–3 tablespoons honey
- 2–3 cinnamon sticks
- 1/2 cup (120ml) bourbon or dark rum (optional)
- Ice (preferably cider ice cubes)
Instructions
- Wash the oranges and cranberries thoroughly. Slice the oranges into thin rounds (about 1/4 inch thick) and remove any seeds.
- Place the orange slices and cranberries in the bottom of a large 1.5-gallon glass pitcher.
- Pour the dry red wine over the fruit. If using bourbon or rum, add it now. Stir gently to combine.
- Pour in the apple cider and stir well to combine everything.
- Add the honey and cinnamon sticks. Stir until the honey is fully dissolved.
- Taste the mixture and adjust sweetness or spice if needed.
- Place the pitcher in the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour, ideally 2-4 hours, to allow flavors to meld.
- Remove from the fridge and serve over ice in wine glasses or highball glasses. Garnish with extra orange slices and cranberries.
Notes
For best results, chill the wine before mixing. Use fresh cranberries for better texture and appearance. To prevent dilution, make ice cubes from extra apple cider. The drink tastes better if made ahead and allowed to sit in the fridge for a few hours.
