  • Author: Thea
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A rich, cozy hot chocolate made with heavy cream, dark chocolate, and marshmallow fluff, topped with toasted pecans for a decadent fall treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup dark chocolate chips (60% cocoa)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup marshmallow fluff
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • ½ cup raw pecans, chopped
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Whipped cream (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Toast the chopped pecans in a large skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes until fragrant and darker. Remove from heat and set aside on a plate.
  2. In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine heavy cream, whole milk, and brown sugar. Whisk until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is warm.
  3. Add dark chocolate chips and cocoa powder to the saucepan. Whisk constantly for 2-3 minutes until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy. Do not let it boil vigorously.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the marshmallow fluff and 1 tablespoon of butter until completely smooth and creamy.
  5. Stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of sea salt. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired.
  6. Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. Top with toasted pecans and whipped cream if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Toast pecans carefully as they burn quickly. Use low heat when melting chocolate to prevent scorching. For a praline swirl, melt 1 tbsp butter and 1 tbsp brown sugar in the skillet after toasting nuts and drizzle into mugs. Warm mugs with hot water before serving to keep drinks hot longer. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat with a splash of milk.
