Description
A bright, citrusy, and gentle cocktail made with fresh blood oranges, blanco tequila, and agave nectar. Designed as a soothing evening ritual to help unwind after a long day.
Ingredients
- 3 large blood oranges (yielding about 1.5 cups juice)
- 2 ounces (60ml) Blanco Tequila
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) 100% Agave Nectar
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) Lime Juice
- Coarse Salt or Pink Himalayan Salt (for rimming)
- Ice cubes
- Optional: Thin slice of blood orange or sprig of rosemary for garnish
Instructions
- Prep the glass: Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks glass and dip it into coarse salt. Set aside.
- Juice the oranges: Cut blood oranges in half and squeeze to yield about 1.5 cups of fresh juice. Remove any seeds.
- Combine ingredients: Add the fresh blood orange juice, lime juice, agave nectar, and tequila to a cocktail shaker.
- Add ice: Add a handful of large ice cubes to the shaker.
- Shake: Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds until the drink is cold.
- Strain and serve: Strain the mixture into the prepared glass over fresh ice. Garnish with an orange slice if desired.
Notes
Use fresh blood oranges for the best color and flavor. If blood oranges are unavailable, regular navel oranges can be used but will lack the berry notes and deep red hue. For a non-alcoholic version, skip the tequila and add a splash of sparkling water. Chill the glass in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving for a colder drink. Let fruit sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before juicing for easier extraction.
