Herbed Cream Cheese Turkey Pinwheels

  • Author: Thea
  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 24 servings 1x

Description

A quick, elegant, and customizable appetizer or light meal featuring roasted turkey breast and fresh herbs spread on tortillas, rolled tight, and chilled for clean slicing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 to 2 pounds whole turkey breast (roasted and cooled)
  • 8 ounces block cream cheese (full-fat, softened)
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 12-inch flour tortillas (2 large)
  • 1/4 cup fresh herbs (mix of chives, parsley, and dill)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon capers, 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Season turkey breast with salt, pepper, and olive oil. Roast until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). Let rest for 10 minutes, then slice thinly and cool completely.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, heavy cream, minced garlic, lemon zest, and chopped herbs. Beat with a hand mixer or whisk until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Lay tortillas on a clean surface. If stiff, microwave for 10-15 seconds to warm and make pliable.
  4. Spread a thin, even layer of the herbed cream cheese mixture over each tortilla, leaving a 1-inch border at the top edge.
  5. Layer sliced turkey breast over the cream cheese, overlapping slices slightly.
  6. Starting from the bottom edge, roll the tortilla up tightly into a cylinder. Wrap each roll tightly in plastic wrap.
  7. Refrigerate wrapped pinwheels for at least 30 minutes (or up to 24 hours) to set the filling.
  8. Unwrap and slice into 1-inch rounds with a sharp knife before serving.

Notes

The key to success is chilling the pinwheels before slicing to ensure clean cuts. Use block cream cheese, not tub, for better texture. Ensure tortillas are warm and pliable to prevent cracking. Do not reheat, as this will melt the cream cheese and make the tortilla soggy.
