Description
A homemade, dairy-free iced coffee drink featuring rich brown sugar syrup and creamy oat milk, offering a café-quality experience at a fraction of the cost.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 shots espresso (about 60ml)
- 1 cup oat milk (preferably Barista Edition)
- Ice cubes (large cubes recommended)
Instructions
- Combine brown sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved (3-5 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
- Let the syrup cool completely; it will thicken slightly as it cools.
- Brew espresso using a machine, moka pot, or strong brewed coffee.
- Let the espresso cool for a minute or two.
- Fill a tall glass to the top with ice.
- Pour oat milk over the ice, filling the glass about halfway.
- Add 2 tablespoons of brown sugar syrup over the milk.
- Slowly pour the espresso over the back of a spoon to create layers.
- Stir well before drinking to combine all ingredients.
- Adjust sweetness or bitterness to taste.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use a 1.5:1 ratio of sugar to water for the syrup. Chill the glass in the freezer for 10 minutes before serving for a colder drink. The syrup can be made in advance and stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. If using regular oat milk, the drink may be thinner; Barista editions provide better creaminess.
