Description
A refreshing and sophisticated fall drink that combines wheat beer, apple cider, and fresh lemon juice. This easy-to-make shandy captures the essence of autumn with a perfect balance of sweet, tart, and yeasty flavors.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 oz (355ml) Wheat Beer (Hefeweizen or Dunkelweizen)
- 12 oz (355ml) 100% Apple Cider or Apple Juice
- 1 Fresh Lemon (cut into wedges)
- Ice (large cubes preferred)
- Optional: Thin apple slice or sprig of thyme for garnish
- Optional: Pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for spice
Instructions
- Chill the wheat beer and apple cider thoroughly before starting.
- Wash the lemon and cut it into wedges. Squeeze approximately 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice into the serving glass.
- Fill a highball or pint glass with ice.
- Pour the wheat beer slowly down the side of the glass to minimize excessive foam, leaving about an inch of space at the top.
- Slowly pour the apple cider over the beer to maintain carbonation, aiming for a 50/50 ratio.
- Squeeze the fresh lemon wedge into the drink and drop it in.
- Gently stir with a long spoon or straw to mix the lemon juice without losing too much fizz.
- Serve immediately with a straw and optional garnish.
Notes
For best results, use cold ingredients to maintain carbonation. If making a pitcher for a group, mix 2 bottles of beer with 2 bottles of cider and the juice of 2 lemons. Add a pinch of salt to balance sweetness. Do not freeze the drink as it will ruin the carbonation and expand the liquid.
