Description
A creamy, garlicky, one-dish weeknight dinner ready in just 15 minutes. This easy skillet meal combines Italian sausage, cheese tortellini, and marinara sauce for a comforting, stress-free meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
- 1 package (9-16 oz) refrigerated cheese tortellini
- 1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Heat butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add crumbled Italian sausage and cook for 5-6 minutes, breaking it up, until browned and cooked through.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes, stirring constantly for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add 1 cup of water to the skillet and bring to a boil. Add tortellini, stir, then reduce heat to a simmer. Cover and cook for 5-7 minutes until al dente, stirring occasionally.
- Stir in marinara sauce and heavy cream. Simmer uncovered for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve immediately, topped with fresh basil if desired.
Notes
Use refrigerated tortellini for best texture and faster cooking. Avoid jarred garlic as it can have a metallic taste. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of water or broth. If too thin, simmer longer or add more Parmesan. This dish does not freeze well due to the dairy content.
